Spring Break 2010 missions trip to Guanajuato, Mexico

The first team meeting will be Monday, Feb. 8 at 5pm at Redeemer in the Firestone Room.

Guanajuato is a beautiful, old, colonial town 4 hrs. north of Mexico City. We will be staying at, and working a campsite recently purchased by Mission to the World (the PCA's missions organization). We will be helping maintain/build facilities on this campsite to allow for its future use. We will also hold a sports camp for the children in a neighboring village. We will play soccer with them, jump rope, fun things...with beautiful children. We will also have a devotion time with them. We will have a Mexican woman cook delicious, authentic mexican food for us. All of this we will be doing with students who are involved in the RUF at the huge university in Mexico City.
 
 
A few questions you might have:
1. How am I suppossed to pay $1300 for spring break, I just spent $70 on conference?!?
          Raise support- you send letters to people who love you, who care about God's kingdom coming to earth, and pray and trust God to provide in accordance with His will
2. What if I don't know Spanish? We will have the Mexican RUF students to translate for us. However, you can love precious children without knowing their language.
3. What if I've never been on a missions trip? This trip is a great trial run at the new culture hard work thing!
4. What if I don't play sports and can't mix concrete? There is always a way for everyone to contribute- that's the beauty of the body of Christ. God has gifted each of us specifically to do the 'good work he has planned in advance for us to do.' Eph. 2:10

Oftentimes, the terms “missions” and “mission trip” are tossed around as if their meanings were self-evident.  If we step back for a minute, though, we may recognize a few obvious questions that we never thought to ask—questions like, what mission are we talking about?  Whose mission is it?  Does it really require taking a trip? 


The short and simple answer is that we’re talking about God’s global mission to reconcile all things to himself through the life, death, and resurrection of his son, Jesus.  From the very beginning (Genesis 12), God saves his people for a purpose—to be a part of his mission of renewal and restoration.  So, regardless of whether we’re serving others in Mississippi or in Central America, the mission is the same as it is in Athens—to advertise and demonstrate the goodness, kindness, and power of God.  RUF offers several opportunities each year for students to participate in the work and mission of the Church.  

 Short-term Mission Trips with RUF

Each Fall Break and Spring Break, RUF students participate in short-term mission trips.  During the past few years, we've spent a good bit of time helping out our friends at Lagniappe Presbyterian Church in Waveland, Mississippi put their lives and homes back together after Hurricane Katrina.  Also, after several years of spring break trips to Corozal, Belize, we're beginning to develop a great relationship with the local church and townspeople in that area.  If you are interested in participating in a short-term mission trip with RUF, please get in touch with Craig Gant.
