Sermon Series on the Whole Counsel of God (Spring 2009)
This semester
we’re going to be talking about "the whole counsel of God”.
This sounds like a rather ambitious task, so here’s a further
explanation. The apostle Paul said in Acts 20:17, “I did not
shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.” We’re going
to do our best to explore what he meant when he said this. What in
Paul's mind is "the whole counsel of God”? We’ll be looking at
portions of many of his epistles to find out. What are the major themes?
What is most central? What is the whole big picture
about? These are the questions we’ll have in mind as we look at how
the apostle Paul lays out the main things of the Christian faith along with
their application for our lives. In the end, we'll see that "the
whole counsel of God" is about his all-encompassing plan to redeem
sinners. In other words, his counsel is far more about all that he has
done for you than it is about what he wants you to do for him.
